A Resistance
During the time that Japan ruled Korea as a colony, YU Gwan-sun was put in jail for leading a nonviolent movement called the March 1 Movement. This movement advocated for Korean independence. YU is unshaken by the setback, and she rallies the other prisoners to fight back against Japan. The head of Japanese security is aware of the uprising, and he decides to torture an inmate in order to obtain information about who is responsible for it. Later on, Gwan-sun acts as though he is obeying the Japanese in order to maintain his cover while arranging another independence demonstration in secret. This agitation expands outside of the prison and into the streets, and YU is subjected to harsh torture once more as a result. Even though she passed away two days before she was scheduled to be freed, her spirit is now more emancipated and free than it ever was before.
