Alice and David Chaplin, together with their children, relocate to a gated luxury housing development where social standing is everything. Princess Alice is disturbed by the snobbish standard established by Queen Bee Ffion, who addresses her daughter in French even in stores, and Alice is alarmed by the parents' competition to get their kids into Chelsea College rather than the despised local comprehensive school. Even better, Sarah McDonald accepts a position as school secretary in order to be near to the activity. Molly, Alice's daughter, is a poor student who received a dismal 38 percent on her dummy run entry exam for Chelsea, despite her best efforts. Alice is terrified that her daughter may be forced into prostitution and resolves to imitate Molly and sit for the exam herself.
