Royal Opera House: The Sleeping Beauty
The Resting Appeal holds an unique area in The Royal Dancing's repertory. It was the ballet with which the Business resumed the Royal Opera House in 1946 after The Second World War, its first manufacturing at its new home in Covent Yard. Margot Fonteyn danced the duty of the stunning Princess Aurora in the sneak preview, with Robert Helpmann as Prince Florimund. Sixty years later, in 2006, the initial 1946 staging was restored by then Director of The Royal Dancing Monica Mason and also Christopher Newton, returning Oliver Messel's fantastic designs as well as glittering costumes to the stage.
