Save the Cinema is based on the true story of Liz Evans, a hairdresser and leader of a youth theater in Carmarthen, Wales. In 1993, she started a campaign to stop the closing of the Lyric theater. Along with Richard Goodridge, who was Mayor of Carmarthen at the time (in the movie, this role is played by a local councilman), they asked Steven Spielberg for help and were able to get a special showing of Jurassic Park.
