Stones for the Rampart
To suffer a loss but emerge unscathed from the conflict victorious. This is the guiding principle that Alek, Sophy, and Rudy, three young friends, use to navigate their journey through life. Scouts, graduates of the high school in Warsaw, moving toward great aspirations for the future that were broken during September of 1939. They are coming of age during extremely turbulent times, which forces them to make a decision: either they will survive no matter what it takes, or they will join the battle for freedom in their homeland and put everything on the line in the process. The boys, who were raised in patriotic households and molded by the principles of scouting, eventually made the decision to fight. They enlist in the military, and despite the fact that they face an increased risk of dying, they are nonetheless able to lead quite normal lives.
