Follows the story of Miguel Santos, a. k. a. Sugar (Algenis Perez Soto), a Dominican pitcher from San Pedro de Macorís, struggling to make it to the major leagues and also pull himself and also his family members out of poverty. Playing professionally at a baseball academy in the Dominican Republic, Miguel ultimately obtains his break at age 19 when he advancements to the United States' minor league system; yet when his play on the mound falters, he starts to examine the willpower of his life's aspiration.
