The Shootout
The Shootout is an action comedy from the early 1990s that has a large number of actors that have had roles in both classic and contemporary Hong Kong movies. Fai, played by pop singer Aaron Kwok, is a relatively inexperienced and youthful cop who makes an unintentional arrest of a member of a theft gang. However, Fai is stripped of his rank when Elvis Tsui, the ruthless leader of the gang, infiltrates the Police Headquarters in order to eliminate his own buddy! Fortunately, the authorities recruit two "professional" policemen, Lau (played by Sean Lau Ching Wan) and Ma (played by Leung Ka Yan), to assist in apprehending the criminals. Fai (Fennie Yuen), who is attracted to Min (Fennie Yuen), a club singer, and who is also the primary antagonist's girlfriend, provides valuable assistance to the police in their inquiry. The police are able to reassemble in time for a bloody conclusion thanks to the excellent work of their officers and, who knows, maybe even a little luck. The Shootout is highlighted by gritty violence and thrilling, over-the-top action, but its charismatic cast and quick-footed humour are what make things engaging throughout the entire film.
