They Rode West
Dr. Allen Seward (Robert Francis) is assigned to a western cavalry post where his predecessors were alcoholics and slackers. After disobeying regulations and tending to sick Indians on the malaria-infested reserve, the post does not take well to him either. The Indians leave the reservation to migrate to a healthier higher terrain, and when they unite with the Comanches to besiege the fort, Seward is labeled a "woodhawk," a bird that turns against its own kind. Donna Reed is present as the niece of the post commander; Phil Carey is a cavalry captain who believes the only good Indian is a dead Indian; and May Wynn (who debuted alongside Francis in "The Caine Mutiny") is the white girl reared by the Indians and married to the chief's son. Before his death in a plane crash in1955, Francis would make only two more films.
