The film "100 UP" examines what it means to have the will to live. It depicts a colorful assortment of centenarians and great-grandcentenarians from all across the world. They have been around for more than a century and have seen incredible things happen throughout history, but rather than ruminating on the past, they are focused on the future. These centenarians, aware that time is passing them by inexorably, cling to life, establish new goals with a joie de vivre, and refuse to acknowledge the treachery of their aging bodies. Time can be viewed as both a friend and an adversary to them. They have triumphed against illnesses, suffered the loss of loved ones, and some of them have even outlived their own children. In spite of this, those beyond the age of 100 who are still lively, inquisitive, and creative are very adept at beginning over each new day.
