Benediction
History of the great First World War poet, Siegfried Sassoon (1886-1967), who was a distinguished soldier on the Western Front and is most known for his indignant and empathetic poetry about his experiences in the conflict. In contrast to the emotion and patriotism of many war poets, Sassoon described the horror and cruelty of trench combat and mocked generals, politicians, and churchmen for their incompetence and unquestioning support of the war.
