Cezanne and I
They adored one another with the zeal of thirteen-year-old boys. They shared everything: rebellion and curiosity, hopes and doubts, girls and glory dreams. Paul was wealthy, while Emile was impoverished. They skinny-dipped, drank absinthe, went hungry, only to overeat. I sketched models during the day and caressed them at night... Paul is now a painter, and Emile is a writer. Paul has missed out on glory. Emile, on the other hand, has it all: fame, money, and the perfect wife, whom Paul once loved. They pass judgment on one another, admire one another, and confront one another. They lose contact, then reconnect, like a couple who can't stop loving each other.
