Hearts of the West
Lewis Tater, a naive Iowa farm lad, aspires to be a famous Western novelist like his hero Zane Grey. He goes home to respond to an ad for on-campus classes for a writing correspondence course, only to find that the institution is nothing more than a row of postboxes at a desert train terminal in Nevada. Lewis comes across "genuine" cowboys—cowboy actors filming a movie in the desert—while on the run from the fraudulent men responsible. In Depression-era Hollywood, the would-be writer finds himself instead acting in Westerns for the run-down Tumbleweed Productions studio.
