I Never Sang for My Father
Hackman plays a New York professor who wants a change in his life. He wants to get married to his girlfriend and move to California, so he hires a lawyer to help. As long as he doesn't move too far from his father, his mother understands why he wants to get away. The mother dies right before the wedding. He should live his own life and not let his father control him, says Hackman's sister. Their father has disowned her for marrying a Jewish man.
