Into the Woods
Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim is an allegorical drama about family, love, growing up, and the murky spaces between right and wrong that weaves together many well-known fairy tales. Timothy Sheader directed this play, which was shot live on camera by Digital Stage at London's Regent's Park Open Air theatre. Into the Woods takes the Brothers Grimm's stories and gives them a dark and comedic twist. The Baker and his Wife's struggle to have a child is intermingled with the popular tales of Red Ridinghood, Jack (of Beanstalk fame), Cinderella, and Rapunzel. This retelling, however, goes beyond "happily ever after," as the familiar characters find themselves in unexpected situations, and their aspirations and dreams are tested and revisited.
