Ivan the Terrible, Part II: The Boyars' Plot
As directed by Josef Stalin, Soviet filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein is working on a three-part epic biography of Russian Czar Ivan Grozny. Because Eisenstein used forbidden experimental filmmaking techniques in this section more than the first, the epic's production was halted before the third part could be filmed, causing producer displeasure. Since both Eisenstein and Stalin died, this second half was forbidden from public viewing until the Soviet government changed its mind. Ivan the Terrible's political adversaries, the Russian boyars, plot his assassination in this chapter.
