Larceny
John Payne is a bad, lowlife rat who tries to make money off of people's grief and patriotism after the war. He tricks Joan Caulfied, a war widow, into giving him her savings for a memorial that doesn't exist. When Payne falls in love with the widow, he feels bad about it, but he doesn't think about his con-artist boss, Dan Duryea, who usually backs up his arguments with muscle and guns.
