The tale adheres to a triad of Japanese young people of Chinese descent that leave their semi-rural childhood and also relocate to Shinjuku, Tokyo, where they befriend a troubled Shanghai woman of the street and fall nasty of a local criminal activity syndicate. Like a lot of Miike's jobs, the film checks out the underbelly of commendable Japanese culture and the troubles of adaptation dealt with by non-ethnically Japanese individuals in Japan.
