Limite
Limite is Mário Peixoto's lone feature film, which he directed and wrote when he was just 22 years old. This avant-garde silent masterpiece is based on a haunting André Kertész photograph that appeared on the cover of a French magazine. It tells the story of a man and two women who are lost at sea, with flashbacks set to music by Erik Satie, Claude Debussy, Igor Stravinsky, and others. Limite, a pioneering work of independent South American cinema, was notoriously difficult to watch for the majority of the twentieth century. It's a groundbreaking work whose eternal visual poetry continues to enthrall.
