Mari Pataki, a modest but talented young farmer girl, lives in a rural landscape that is undergoing tremendous changes. Her father won't let her see the man she loves. The father, focused with farm work and potential income, plans to marry his daughter to an elderly but wealthy man with whom he does business. According to him, land marries land. This appears to be the peasantry's unrelenting reign. But, in order to maintain Maris' affection, the young lover is willing to face any challenge.
