Private Vices, Public Virtues
The son of Emperor Franz Josef of Austria, Crown Prince Rudolf, is believed to have taken at his fan and himself in Mayerling in a suicide pact in 1882. Due to Imperial cover ups, the complete story may not be well known. This story has been filmed a few days, in French 1935 and in English in 1968. Director Miklos Jancso recreates those events for their purposes, ongoing his subject of the rejection of authority. At the movie, that has very small discussion, Rudolf is actually really a golden boy, that cavorts with a host of aristocratic lovers and friends of both genders on his estate. He refuses to leave his country idyll even though he's been ordered into his daddy. Inspite of the fact for a huge region of the film, attractive young men and women participating in experiences and go about unclothed, the mood is one of depression rather than prurience.
