The Carpetbaggers
The Carpetbaggers is an American movie from1964. It stars George Peppard as a character based on Howard Hughes and Alan Ladd as a former western gunslinger who became an actor under the name Nevada Smith. The same character was played by Steve McQueen in a prequel the next year. Carroll Baker played an actress who was like Jean Harlow, who was in the epic film Hell's Angels by John Hughes. Alan Ladd's last movie was The Carpetbaggers, which was directed by Edward Dmytryk and shot in 70mm. Ladd died a few months before the movie came out. In the movie, George Peppard plays an ambitious businessman who is a bit like Howard Hughes. His friends and lovers try to reach his human side while he builds planes, directs movies, and breaks hearts, but they find it hard to do. The title of the movie is a metaphor for self-promoting tycoons who quickly take over a company's finances, run it like a dictator to make quick money, and then move on to greener pastures.
