The City Without Jews
The Jews are made the scapegoats for the economic and social maladies afflicting the population in the Republic of Utopia, and the government plans to remove them as a result of the bad economic situation afflicting the nation. Exiled is Leo Strakosch. He is married to the daughter of Counsellor Linder. He infiltrates the Republic in a clandestine manner in order to demonstrate to society the folly of its anti-Semitism. Bettauer's novel is vastly different from the movie adaptation. "Vienna" was given the moniker "Utopia." The story even had a pleasant conclusion.
