William Freise-Greene, who is now old, ill, poor, and largely forgotten, was once very different. As the young and attractive William Green, he changed his name to include his first wife's name in order to sound more impressive for the photographic portrait work he was so skilled at. But he was also an inventor, and his quest for a way to project moving images became an obsession that changed the lives of everyone he cared about.
