The Reconciliation

Poland at the beginning of 1945. Under the cover of punishing "national traitors," the Communist Security Service is exterminating its adversaries in a freshly liberated nation. They organize a labor camp for Germans, Silesians, and Poles on the site of the former Zgoda/Reconciliation Nazi concentration camp. Franek, who is in love with the Polish prisoner Anna, becomes a camp guard to rescue her. He is unaware that one of the captives, his German friend Erwin, has likewise long cherished this woman. Franek joins the communists in the delusional belief that he can outwit the system.
