When a fissure explosively opens into a British sand apartment within a military practice there, injuring one soldier and killing an American research scientist at a nearby nuclear plant joins with a British investigator to detect why the sufferers were radioactively burned and why, shortly thereafter, a collection of radiation-related incidents are occurring within a ever-growing straight line away from the fissure.
