A Different World
A Different World is a six-season American television sitcom that aired on NBC. It is a spin-off series from The Cosby Show that originally focused on Denise Huxtable and the lives of students at Hillman College, a fictional mixed-race but historically black college in Virginia. Following Bonet's departure in the first season, the remainder of the series centered on Southern belle Whitley Gilbert and math whiz Dwayne Wayne. Members of the big historically black fraternities and sororities were regularly shown in the series. While A Different World was a spin-off of The Cosby Show, it often addressed themes that The Cosby Show writers avoided. One of the first American network television episodes to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic was shown in 1990.
