Blue Thunder
Blue Thunder is the name of both a movie and a television series that aired on ABC in 1984. Blue Thunder centered around the Blue Thunder chopper. Both the modified Aérospatiale Gazelle helicopter and significant chunks of stock footage from the 1983 movie are used in the series. In the television series, a ground unit with the moniker "Rolling Thunder" served as the helicopter's backup. This was a massive support van, and inside of it was stashed a desert camouflage off-road vehicle. In addition to Dana Carvey and James Farentino, former professional American football players Bubba Smith and Dick Butkus are featured in the cast of the television series. ABC decided to end the series because they believed that its competitor, CBS's Airwolf, would prevail in the ratings competition. A further disadvantage for the show was that it competed for viewers' attention on Friday nights against the popular CBS soap drama Dallas. Before the series was canceled, a total of eleven episodes had been produced.
