Celebrity Deathmatch
Celebrity Deathmatch is a claymation television show that pits celebrities against each other in a wrestling ring, with the loser almost usually dying horribly. It was famous for the large amount of blood utilized in each bout, as well as the exaggerated physical injuries. Eric Fogel created the show, and the pilot episodes aired on MTV on January 1 and 25, 1998. The first season featured 75 episodes and aired from May 14, 1998 to October 20, 2002. The special "Celebrity Deathmatch Hits Germany," which aired on June 21, 2001, did not count toward the final episode total. As the guest commentator, professional wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin gave voice to his animated version. MTV reported early in 2003 that a film based on the series was in the works, but the project was canceled by the end of the year. MTV2 announced the show's comeback in 2005 as part of their "Sic 'Em Friday" programming block. Originally scheduled to return in November 2005, the launch was rescheduled for June 10, 2006 as part of a new "Sic'emation" block alongside two other animated shows, Where My Dogs At and The Adventures of Chico and Guapo. Cuppa Coffee Studios produced the show's fifth season, and the premiere received over 2.5 million people, making it MTV2's most rated season premiere ever.
