Degrassi High
The third installment in the popular Degrassi series of teen dramas, Degrassi High follows the lives of a group of young people who reside on or close to De Grassi Street in the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In the first run of the show, which aired from 1989 to 1991, it followed the youthful characters from The Kids of Degrassi Street and Degrassi Junior High as they progressed through high school. The episode was shot in the heart of downtown Toronto as well as on location at Centennial College. Degrassi High, much like its predecessor, tackled a wide range of taboo subjects, including HIV/AIDS, abortion, abuse, alcoholism, cheating, sex, death and suicide, dating, depression, bullying, gay rights, homophobia, racism, the environment, eating disorders, and drugs. In the edition of u're Magazine published in September 2007, the topic of the show's influence on the identity of Canadians is examined.
