Degrassi Junior High
Part of the Degrassi franchise, Degrassi Junior High aired on CBC in Canada from 1987 to 1989 as an adolescent drama. The show chronicled the daily happenings of a fictional high school and its pupils. The series was praised for its sympathetic and realistic representation of the difficulties teenagers face, including drug use, child abuse, adolescent pregnancy, homosexuality, homophobia, racism, and divorce, all of which were addressed in various episodes. The majority of the cast were amateurs, which lent authenticity to the production. Stacie Mistysyn, Neil Hope, Anais Granofsky, Sarah Charlesworth, and others reprised their roles from The Kids of Degrassi Street, another CW series they had appeared in a few years earlier. As their identities and familial situations had been altered, Degrassi Junior High could not be deemed a direct offshoot. Degrassi: The Next Generation's Stephen Stohn, who previously served as legal counsel, rose to the position of executive producer. Vincent Massey Public School in Etobicoke, Ontario was used for filming.
