Fireball XL5
In Fireball XL5, a science fiction show for kids, Colonel Steve Zodiac of the World Space Patrol leads the missions of the spaceship Fireball XL5. The show was made by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, a husband-and-wife team, through their company APF and ATV for ITC Entertainment in 1962. Anderson thought the sound of Castrol XL motor oil was interesting when he was making his new show. The name "Fireball XL" was made by changing the way it sounded, and the "-5" was added because the title seemed a little flat without the number. The Andersons' Supermarionation, which they first used in Four Feather Falls and Supercar and then used again in Stingray and Captain Scarlet, was a part of the show. On 35mm film, there were 39 half-hour episodes of Fireball XL5 that were all black and white. After that, all Anderson shows were made in color. Several Anderson series have been shown in the US through syndication, but only Fireball XL5 has been on a US network. From September 1963 to September 1965, NBC showed the show during its Saturday morning kids' block. Space Patrol, which was made by Gerry Anderson's former business partner and co-founder of AP Films, Arthur Provis, is a show that is similar to Fireball XL5 and is often confused with it.
