Kavanagh QC
The Kavanagh QC television series was produced by Central Television for ITV in the United Kingdom between the years 1995 and 2001. It may be seen on ITV3 quite frequently, and seasons 1–6 are all distributed on DVD in Region 2. In the series, John Thaw played the role of barrister James Kavanagh QC, who had a background in the working class and was raised in Bolton, Greater Manchester. This information is not revealed until later episodes, when his parents' health begins to decline, as well as during a conversation with a coworker who incorrectly assumed that Kavanagh was truly from Yorkshire. The show covered his struggles in the courtroom as well as his family tragedies, including the passing of his loving and loyal wife during the course of the show's run. After some time, he starts a romantic relationship with another attorney. In court, Kavanagh is almost always shown defending a client who, up until a certain point in the case, appears to have a good chance of being found guilty. However, there are occasions when Kavanagh is seen acting in the position of a prosecutor. In the primary storyline, Kavanagh must frequently deal with cases that contain an underlying element of racism, misogyny, or another form of prejudice. The comic relief in the various subplots was provided by Jeremy, a pompous and self-absorbed barrister in chambers. In the courts, Kavanagh will not tolerate injustice, and he will not allow himself to be intimidated by his opponents through the use of threats or bribery.
