Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica
MTV and MuchMusic collaborated to produce and broadcast the reality television show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. MTV is also responsible for the show's production. It was a direct result of Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson, who were already married at the time, being married. The program began airing for the first time in August of 2003 and continued for a total of three seasons and 41 episodes. The final season of the show premiered on January 26, 2005, and its final episode was shown on March 30, 2005. Simpson and Lachey got married on October 26, 2002, and on December 16, 2005, they officially started the divorce process. The divorce between Jessica and Nick was finally formalized on June 30, 2006. The show's concept consisted upon exposing Simpson's naive personality in order to parody the common stereotype of "stupid blondes." Perhaps the most well-known instance of this can be found in the very first episode, in which Homer Simpson, when confronted with a can of Chicken of the Sea tuna, asks Nick Sagher what he thought about it "Is what I have fish or chicken, please tell me the difference. Even though I am aware that it is tuna, the label reads "Chicken... by the Sea.""
