Porridge
Porridge is actually a British situation comedy broadcast on BBC1 in 1974 to 1977, running for three series, two Christmas specials and a feature film known as P Orridge. It stars Ronnie Barker and Richard Beckinsale as two criminals at the HMP Slade at Cumberland. "Doing porridge" is British slang for serving a prison sentence, even porridge once being the conventional morning meal at UK prisons.
The series was followed closely with a 1978 sequel, Moving Straight, which established that Fletcher would not be going straight back to prison back again. P Orridge has been voted number seven of the 100 British sitcoms at a 2004 BBC poll.
