Princess Ja Myung
Jung Ryeo-won, Park Min-young, and Jung Kyung-ho feature in Ja Myung Go, a 2009 South Korean historical drama. It aired on SBS Mondays and Tuesdays at 21:55 for 39 episodes from March 9 to July 21, 2009. It is based on the Korean folktale Prince Hodong and the Princess of Nakrang, which tells the narrative of the Nakrang Kingdom's failure. According to legend, a famous drum known as the jamyeonggo, literally "the drum that beats by itself," possessed the remarkable ability to automatically sound an alert whenever attackers invaded the kingdom. Neighboring nations, especially the warrior state of Goguryeo, were hesitant to attack Nakrang because of the self-sounding drum. Hodong, a Goguryeo prince, infiltrated Nakrang to destroy the drum. However, the prince fell in love with the princess of Nakrang in an unexpected way. The princess eventually chose to betray her kingdom by ripping off the drum for love. Her country was destroyed as a result, and she was murdered. With her body in his arms, Prince Hodong lamented her death. The drum is embodied by Ja-myung, the hidden sister of the Nakrang Kingdom's princess, in the drama series. Ra-hee is adored by her people as the princess of Nakrang, whilst Ja-myung survives a murder attempt and lives as a commoner. Prince Hodong of the Goguryeo Kingdom, Nakrang's arch-enemy, is torn between two nations and two ladies, and must choose between love and responsibility.
