Spooks: Code 9
In 2008, BBC Three aired the counterintelligence drama series Spooks: Code 9. Jane Tranter, head of BBC Fiction, commissioned the series as a spin-off of their long-running drama Spooks, presenting a "more maverick, younger perspective" that would appeal to a 16-to-24-year-old audience. The story follows six fresh recruits to MI5 who "follow a separate rule book." Filming took place in and around Leeds and Bradford and was produced by the independent production firm Kudos. The first two episodes aired on BBC Three on 10 August 2008 and were rerun on 11 August 2008 on the same channel. The decision to connect the new project to the original Spooks was controversial, with star Georgia Moffett stating that it was "somewhat deceptive in terms of the name Spooks." said producer Chris Fry "This is an entirely new program. Importantly, there are no crossover characters or plots, and the setting is an entirely new planet." Karen Wilson, the executive producer, stated that several of the existing cast members were "contracted for another year" and that "we'd like to pursue" certain issues "if we get a second series."
