Set during the turbulent beginning of the civil rights movement in Memphis, Sun Records informs the story of nothing less than rock'n' roll's arrival. Directed by Sam Phillips, youthful musicians such as Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis combined the fashions of hillbilly country using the 1950s R&B sound generated by musicians such as Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Fats Domino and Iketurner, and changed the course of music forever. The show chronicles the youthful artists' frequently jarring and abrupt rise to fame in the face of political change and social unrest.
