The Mysterious Play

Miaka, a girl in a junior high school in Tokyo, struggles with typical issues such as conflict with her mother, anxiety about entrance tests, and indecision regarding where she and her friends will eat. Then, she discovers a curious book in the library called the Universe of the Four Gods, and her life is transformed irrevocably when she and her best friend Yui are transported inside the book! As soon as the girls arrived in this other universe, they were promptly assaulted by people who intended to keep them as slaves. They can't believe their good luck that a handsome young man just so happens to be nearby! Both of the girls have fallen head over heels in love with him after he rescued them from their would-be captors; nevertheless, his true motivation is to acquire wealth. When Miaka isn't looking, both Yui and Tamahome are able to disappear. Is it possible that he abducted her in order to sell her to someone else for a profit? Miaka is unaware that Yui has returned to the actual world because she was pulled back in. Once she was back in the library, all she could do was read on as her childhood best friend made her way into the city in search of the enigmatic little boy and her friend. But what is in store for Miaka is not what either of the girls anticipates, and now the only way for Miaka to return to her planet is to become the Priestess of Suzaku and preserve their world in order to do so.
