The Vision of Escaflowne
The Vision of Escaflowne is a 26-episode Japanese anime television series directed by Kazuki Akane and produced by Sunrise Studios. It first aired on TV Tokyo on April 2, 1996, and the final episode aired on September 24, 1996. The series was also shown on Sony's anime satellite channel, Animax, in Japan and on its numerous overseas networks, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Southeast Asia, and South Asia. Bandai Entertainment has licensed the series for Region 1 release. Hitomi is dragged from Earth to Gaea when Van appears on the high school track battling a dragon. She gets trapped in the thick of a conflict in Gaea, as the Zaibach Empire tries to conquer the land. Van leads his mystical mech Escaflowne in the fight against the Zaibach Empire, with the help of Allen. In Gaea, Hitomi's fortune-telling abilities bloom as she becomes the key to awakening Escaflowne and foiling Zaibach's schemes. During the anime's production, two manga retellings were written and released: The Vision of Escaflowne and Hitomi—The Vision of Escaflowne. In 1997, Escaflowne—Memories, Energist's a second shjo adaptation, was published as a single book. Yumiko Tsukamoto, Hajime Yatate, and Shoji Kawamori adapted the narrative into a series of six light novels. Escaflowne: The Movie, a film adaptation, was released on June 24, 2000, but it shows only a passing similarity to the original series. In addition to the series, four CD soundtracks and a drama CD have been issued.
