Things seem to get the job done when Ellen and Tom are all together. It's merely from the spaces beyond the relationship - that the intrusions of genuine lifetime, and the deadly collaboration of parents, siblings, friends and exes - that the flailing attempts to create good first impressions, arrange original dates and hold a relationship with each other, seem to tease.
