Witchblade
Based on the American comic book with the same name, Witchblade is an anime series. Instead of creating an adaptation of the original story, the producers chose to construct an entirely new plot with brand-new characters. This co-production between the Japanese studio Gonzo and the American publisher Top Cow, who owns the franchise rights to Witchblade, has been licensed for release in the United States. The English dub debuted in January 2008 on the US cable network IFC. The series finale aired on IFC on June 13, 2008. The program ran on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 3:30 AM ET. Additionally, Xbox Live and PlayStation Network provide a pay-to-download option for the show. The first twelve episodes can also be downloaded through the Amazon Unbox service. Additionally, Netflix Instant Stream offers the program. As of June 2011, it was accessible on Hulu for free. Vol. 1 was published in September 2007, and as of December 2008, there were six DVD volumes available in the United States and Canada. In addition, there is a complete boxed set that includes all 24 episodes plus an additional disc with bonus extras. On November 3, 2009, a Blu-ray collection was published. The anime was directed by Yoshimitsu Ohashi, who also directed Galaxy Angel and Galaxy Angel Z, and Uno Makoto, the character designer for Stellvia and Love Hina, was responsible for creating the characters.
