Witchblade
Witchblade is a 2001–2002 American television series that aired on TNT. The series is based on the Witchblade comic book franchise, and it began with a pilot film in August 2000. Ralph Hemecker, Marc Silvestri, and J.D. Zeik wrote several of the episodes. Yancy Butler portrayed Sara Pezzini, Anthony Cistaro portrayed Kenneth Irons, David Chokachi portrayed Jake McCartey, Eric Etebari portrayed Ian Nottingham, Will Yun Lee portrayed Danny Woo, Conrad Dunn portrayed Tommy Gallo, Kenneth Welsh portrayed Joe Siri, and John Hensley portrayed Gabriel Bowman, among others. The program was terminated in September 2002, despite being critically acclaimed and popular with audiences; there was speculation that the decision was related to Butler's admission to rehab for drinking. The sitcom aired on TNT for two seasons, totaling 24 episodes. The first episode aired on June 12, 2001, and the final episode on August 26, 2002. Despite its demise, Witchblade was voted seventh in 2002's Top 10 Basic Cable Dramas. According to Top Cow editor Matt Hawkins, the Witchblade TV series was discontinued because the lead actress, Yancy Butler, was an alcoholic who entered treatment — it was and still is the highest rated TV series to be cancelled.
